Mrs. C. Herndon's Class      June 3-7, 2013
The entire kindergarten had a wonderful trip to the farm!  Thanks to the Elgin Family for hosting us and to Mrs. Kaci Daniel with the Extension Office for organizing it for us.  The children experienced touching a cow, making butter, creating milk mustaches for a picture, learning about calves and seeing a milking parlor.  The children even received an ice cream treat and dairy related items from the farm family.  We sure know lots about the dairy process and had a great time.  Thank you J Team Dairy and Mrs. Daniel!
We continue to care for and observe our chicks!!  They change so quickly!
For homework, please complete the fruits and vegetables sheet, practice addition/ subtraction skills and READ together!!!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class     May 27-31, 2012
The community helper projects were amazing!  Each child was able to present their project to the class and they did an awesome job.  Thanks for the support with completing the assignment.
We have learned about the four food groups and made a graphic organizer to show the groups.  The children have been identifying the food groups in their lunches and discussing the importance of eating a balanced diet each day.
We continue to care for our chickens and observe their daily changes.  They are beginning to develop their wing feathers at 1 week old!
Monday, May 27th is a school holiday for Memorial Day.  The homework for the week includes cuting and pasting pictures of healthy foods, practicing sight words, additions sheets, review coins and enjoy reading together. 
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class    May 20-24, 3013
Our class has BIG news!!!  26 chicks hatched in our class and many right before our eyes!!!!!  I am sure you have heard about them and hopefully saw the photo of your child holding one of the chicks!  We have read many stories, written about them and learned about the chicken life cycle!!  What exciting hands on learning!!!
For homework, please complete the farm sights sheet, read the baggie of books, practice sight words, work on the addition sheets and read aloud together!!
We look forward to our field trip to the farm on May 29th.  We will have a guest presenter provide a lesson on pigs for the entire kindergarten on May 20th.  Lots of happenings!!!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class     May 13-17, 2013
We have continued to discuss and read about the farm this week.  We have focused on a different animal each day.  The children acted our the "Three Billy Goats Gruff" and did an awesome job!!!  We have been working on addition and coins in math.
The children were thrilled to make Mother's Day cards and take the plants home they grew from seeds!!  Hope you all have a great day!!!
Next week, we hope to welcome the chicks and we are so EXCITED!!!  I am sure you will be hearing about them!
For homework, please complete the home counting record, sight word review, practice with addtion and coins and enjoy reading together.  Your child will love reading to you as well!!!  Have a wonderful week!!!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class   May 6-10, 2013
We are reading and learning about the farm. As a beginning to our community helpers unit, the children are learning about the jobs of a farmer.  We are looking forward to the community helpers projects the children will be completing.  Our spring field trip will be a trip to a dairy farm at the end of May.
We candled our eggs this week to see if any chicks were inside.  Looks like at least 38 out of 41 have chicks.  Cannot wait to see how many hatch!!  The children are great helpers with checking the thermometer to make sure the eggs are warm enough.
For homework, please complete the rainbow sheet/color words, read the baggie of books, practice sight words, practice identifying coins, telling their values and adding nickels and pennies.  We are beginning addition skills in class.  Enjoy reading together everyday!!!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class     April 29-May 3, 2013
Our class celebrated Earth Day by planting flowers, pumpkins, potatoes and milk weed!!!  We discussed ways to help the Earth.  The children have learned about the water cycle and rainbows.  They have heard stories, written about the topics and made rainbows with a prism and with an art project.
We have more exciting news!!  We have 41 eggs set in our incubator and will be tallying the days until the hatch in mid May!  I am sure you will be hearing about our egg to chick life cycle study!!
For Homework, review telling time, practice the new sight words, discuss the recyclying resource sheet, count aloud to 100 and read the small bag of books and other stories.

Mrs. C. Herndon's Class   April 22-26, 2013
We have been observing weather and discussing the water cycle.  The children have pretended to be a cloud and described the type of weather they would bring.  We even did some cloud watching!!  The children have heard stories and read about weather related books.  They are making good progress with their reading.   I am sure your child is showing you all the exciting new things he/she is learning!
For Homework, complete the weather chart/Days of the Week sheet, read small baggie of books, practice sight words, practice counting to 100, practice coin identification/values and read together. 
The 3rd Nine weeks report card will be sent home on Tuesday, April 23rd. 
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class    April 15-19,2013
The children have been reading stories and observing signs of spring.  They even planted their Peter
Rabbit Garden with the help of the Master Gardners.  It is wonderful to have them work with the children and we look forward to harvesting and eating a salad that we GREW!!!
Thanks to all who attended the reading night at school.  It was wonderful to see you and we look forward to sharing the photos of the "Three Little Pigs" with you!!!
Next week our new Connect schedule will be:  Mon.-Music, Tues.-Technology, Wed.-Art, Thurs.-Music/Gym, Fri.-Library.
For Homework this week, please practice telling time, reading the baggie of books, review/write the second sight word list, practice ordinal numbers 1st-10th place and read, read, read together!!!

We had a wonderful egg hunt and thanks to all for sending in the eggs and treats.  Thanks to the parents and grandparents for helping with the hunt!!  Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful spring break!!!!
The children heard different versions of the Peter Rabbit story and will be planting vegetables in our kindergarten garden. 
For homework, please work in reviewing math skills listed, read the baggie of books, practice the 2nd sight word list, sequence daily events on the math sheet and read aloud each day.  Please encourage your child to write about their ideas and experiences!

Mrs. C. Herndon's Class    March 25-29, 2013
Dinosaurs were the excitement of the week!  The children learned more facts, read about dinosaurs, imagined they had one for a pet, wrote about it and shared it with the class.  We estimated dinosaur lenghts and how many were in a box.  The children sang the dinosaur songs, worked puzzles, made a real graph and even erupted a volcano that would have been present with the dinosaurs.  We loved our study of dinosaurs and learned so much!!
We have been working on identifying tools of measurement and learning how these tools are used.  We have been learning to tell time to the hour.   The children have been exploring magnets and discovering how they attract and repel. 
For homework, please complete the holiday sheet, read the baggie of books, practice the 2nd sight word list, complete the math sheet on times of events and read aloud to your child.
