Ms. Jenkins' Class- Week of May 20-24
We have had a VERY exciting week in Kindergarten! I'm sure you have heard about the 26 chicks that were hatched in Mrs. C Herndon's incubator. The children got the opportunity to hold one of the chicks for pictures. We hope you enjoyed your child's photo attached to their writing about this wonderful experience. We made a class book for our library, too.

For homework this week, please take the poem, "To the Farm" out of the folder and place it in your child's reading notebook. Your child should be able to read and track all of the poems in the notebook at this point, so please continue to use it for practice.
Continue to work on addition and subtraction problems with your child as we will focus on this for the remainder of the year in math. We have made so much progress in reading and math this year- I'm SO proud of the children!

We will have a guest presentation about pigs this week. We are looking forward to our field trip to the farm on May 29th! Thank you for returning the permission slips and interim reports.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Jenkins' Class- Week of May 6-10
The children learned a rainbow song last week and sang it so sweetly each morning. They memorized ROY G BIV to help them know the correct order of the seven colors of the rainbow. I hope you enjoyed the rainbow projects that they brought home.

This week, please add the "Seed" poem to your child's reading folder. We will continue to learn about seeds, plants, life cycles and living things. Help your child collect a few seeds during the week to share with the class on Friday. We will even be using my seeds to do math! Please help your child practice identifying the four coins and their values. Also practice adding mixed coins, as this is a tough skill. They will be assessed this week. We will continue to work on addition and subtraction through centers, recording sheets, games, and direct instruction, so please practice with your child. Thank you for choosing your child's project for our Community Helper unit. Please begin to work on this project this week, once your directions are sent in the Tuesday folder. Read the books in the baggie with your child each night, practice sight words, and return all completed work in the folder on Friday.

**PALS testing will take place this week. Please be sure your child is well rested and to school on time as we will be breaking the assessment into smaller components each day.

Thank you for your support, and have a very Happy Mother's Day!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class   May 6-10, 2013
We are reading and learning about the farm. As a beginning to our community helpers unit, the children are learning about the jobs of a farmer.  We are looking forward to the community helpers projects the children will be completing.  Our spring field trip will be a trip to a dairy farm at the end of May.
We candled our eggs this week to see if any chicks were inside.  Looks like at least 38 out of 41 have chicks.  Cannot wait to see how many hatch!!  The children are great helpers with checking the thermometer to make sure the eggs are warm enough.
For homework, please complete the rainbow sheet/color words, read the baggie of books, practice sight words, practice identifying coins, telling their values and adding nickels and pennies.  We are beginning addition skills in class.  Enjoy reading together everyday!!!
Ms. Schwind's Class   April 29 - May 3
