This week we will be learning about safety and also harvesting from our garden.

Mrs. Jenkins Class- Week of June 3-7
The children enjoyed a wonderful day at the dairy farm. Thanks to the Elgin family for having us-and for the ice cream and the treats they gave us. The children were VERY well-behaved. I was so proud of them!

Thank you for sending in all the books from the home reading program. I have accounted for all of the books! If you have a library book at home, please send it in as soon as possible.

The homework assignments have come to an end. The children are bringing home their sticker charts for completing homework each week. I am also sending home the extra folder from the beginning of the year if it wasn't necessary to replace your child's HW folder. Please look for the end of the year letter with all the final activities listed. Included with this letter, are summer fun homework calendars, some suggested review activites, and word lists. Above all else, please read to and with your child throughout the summer. :)

Thank you for all the support you have given to your child's first year of school. The students made tremendous progress this year!
Hope you all have a fun, safe, and wonderful summer!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class      June 3-7, 2013
The entire kindergarten had a wonderful trip to the farm!  Thanks to the Elgin Family for hosting us and to Mrs. Kaci Daniel with the Extension Office for organizing it for us.  The children experienced touching a cow, making butter, creating milk mustaches for a picture, learning about calves and seeing a milking parlor.  The children even received an ice cream treat and dairy related items from the farm family.  We sure know lots about the dairy process and had a great time.  Thank you J Team Dairy and Mrs. Daniel!
We continue to care for and observe our chicks!!  They change so quickly!
For homework, please complete the fruits and vegetables sheet, practice addition/ subtraction skills and READ together!!!
Ms. Jenkins' Class- Week of May 27-31
The children really worked hard on their community helper projects! I recorded each child's presentation on the IPad and they loved seeing the recordings afterward. Thank you for helping your child with this project. They learned a great deal about the work that various community helpers perform.

This will be the last homework assignment for the year. Please add the Community Helpers poem to your child's reading notebook. Practice reading and spelling the final set of sight words for the spell check this week. Complete the additional activities and return in the folder on Friday. I will be sending a "SUMMER FUN" packet home for your child to review over the summer to keep skills in check for starting first grade.

We are looking forward to our trip to the farm this Wednesday!
Thanks and have a great week!
Mrs. C. Herndon's Class     May 27-31, 2012
The community helper projects were amazing!  Each child was able to present their project to the class and they did an awesome job.  Thanks for the support with completing the assignment.
We have learned about the four food groups and made a graphic organizer to show the groups.  The children have been identifying the food groups in their lunches and discussing the importance of eating a balanced diet each day.
We continue to care for our chickens and observe their daily changes.  They are beginning to develop their wing feathers at 1 week old!
Monday, May 27th is a school holiday for Memorial Day.  The homework for the week includes cuting and pasting pictures of healthy foods, practicing sight words, additions sheets, review coins and enjoy reading together.
Ms. Jenkins' Class- Week of May 20-24
We have had a VERY exciting week in Kindergarten! I'm sure you have heard about the 26 chicks that were hatched in Mrs. C Herndon's incubator. The children got the opportunity to hold one of the chicks for pictures. We hope you enjoyed your child's photo attached to their writing about this wonderful experience. We made a class book for our library, too.

For homework this week, please take the poem, "To the Farm" out of the folder and place it in your child's reading notebook. Your child should be able to read and track all of the poems in the notebook at this point, so please continue to use it for practice.
Continue to work on addition and subtraction problems with your child as we will focus on this for the remainder of the year in math. We have made so much progress in reading and math this year- I'm SO proud of the children!

We will have a guest presentation about pigs this week. We are looking forward to our field trip to the farm on May 29th! Thank you for returning the permission slips and interim reports.

We really enjoyed making books, and messages and art projects for Mother's Day. I hope you enjoyed reading your child's own words and that you all enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day.
Thanks to the Garden Patch of Orange for donating plants for the children to bring home to our moms.

For homework this week, please add the "Colors" poem to your child's reading notebook. Practice tracking the poem each night. Review the sight words and find some in your books. I will be ending the "take-home books" in two weeks so that I can inventory and repair the books before the school year is over.
We are working on addition and subtraction, so please review the enclosed study guide for activities you can do with your child at home. Help your child work on the Community Helpers project. It will be due next week.

Our Kindergarten has an incubator with 40 eggs and this week marks when they should be hatching! I'm sure you will be hearing all about this excitement in our building soon.

Thank you for your support and have a great week!
