Ok, we are finally finishing SOL testing.  Things have gone very well and we are very happy with our students' efforts.  Everyone worked hard and gave it their best.

We are into our last two weeks of school.  Boy, time has passed quickly.  Besides finishing some end of the year assessments, we have quite a few activities planned.

Friday, May 28th is 2nd grade Market Day at the high school gym.  It is also 5th grade's visit to Prospect Heights Middle School.

Monday, May 31st is a holiday and no school for students and staff.
Tuesday, June 1st will host a Romeo and Juliet play.

Wednesday, June 2nd is our Field Day and 5th grade picnic.

Thursday, June 2nd is our 5th grade Awards Assembly.
It is also a Field Day make up date if we are rained out on Wednesday.

Friday, June 4th is our last day of school with an 11:30 AM dismissal.  We also have 5th grade graduation at 9:00

This has been a great year for OES and I would like to thank you for your support.  We just keep getting better and better.

May 10th-21st
The next two weeks will be state SOL testing.  Please work with your child to get a good night's rest and provide him/her with a hearty breakfast so he/she can perform well on the tests.  We started the week off with an amazing SOL pep rally and we are confident that the students are going to do a great job testing.  Thank you for your support.
May 3rd-7th
Wow! This year is just flying by.  We are 1 week away from our state testing in grades 3-5.  We are excited due to our last benchmark scores.  Our 3-5 grade students are performing at a high level and we have great expectations for them when they take the SOL tests May 11th-21st.  You can help us by making sure your student gets a good night's rest and a filling breakfast when he/she has a test.

Last week, we had incentives for the students in grades 3-5 to do well on their benchmarks.  I am happy to say that the many, many students are going to get the different incentives for passing, improving their scores, or getting a perfect score of 600 on their test.  Mrs. Bassett and I look forward to having lunch with the 600 club on Friday.  We will also be doing ice cream and extra recess for students that passed both tests and popcorn and a movie during lunch for students that improved their score by a certain amount of questions.
I am very proud of the students and how well they performed on the benchmark.  We are also excited to take the SOL tests so we can get great results on them.

April 26th-30th
Monday is our final SOL Parent Niht for grades 3-5.  We will serve dinner at 6 PM and send students and parents to the grade levels around 6:30.  Our teachers will provide parents with SOL tips to use at home.  It is important that you come tonight so you can help your child be successful on his/her SOL tests.

Monday-Friday is kindergarten registration.  If you haven't registered yet for this week, you still can.  Just contact Mrs. Wayland or Mrs. Grayson to schedule a time.

Tuesday-Friday will be benchmark/released item testing for students in grades 3-5.  This will help us know what skills need to be covered in the last week before SOL tests.  We have many incentives in place for student to do well so we would appreciate it if you make sure your child gets a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast each day.

Have a great week and weekend.
April 12th-16th
I would like to thank Chief Fenwick and his crew for painting our basketball court.  It looks awesome!  When you get chance, you should check it out.  Chief Fenwick and his crew volunteered their time and energy yesterday to do this and we greatly appreciate it.

Monday is a normal day.  Our staff will meet after student dismissal to discuss data and instruction.  We are down to 20 days before we start SOL testing.

Tuesday night will be a SOL information night for 3rd and 4th grade.  We will start at 6:00 and serve dinner to those who come.  Then parents and students will then go to their classrooms to learn about the different things you can do at home to prepare for the SOL tests.  I highly recommend you attend.  Reports cards also will be sent home this day.

Wednesday afternoon will be our School Improvement meeting.  We will meet in the library to discuss and update our school improvement plan.

Thursday is a principal's meeting.  I will be at TEAC most of the day discussing district wide material.

Friday will hold some meetings with grade levels to discuss math data.

I hope you have a great weekend!
April 6th-9th
I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break.  The weather was unbelievable.  I got to spend time with my daughter and wife which was very nice.

Tuesday is a normal day for me. I will be involved in two grade level's RTI meetings to discuss data.  I will also work on getting into classrooms to interact with students and observe instruction. Tuesday afternoon will be after school tutoring until 4:15.

On Wednesday, I have a principal's data meeting at Central Office.  I will meet with the other principals to discuss what data we are collecting and using to develop plans for instruction.

Our state coach will be visiting Thursday and Friday.  She will meet with our leadership team to discuss how things are progressing.  She will also observe classrooms and give suggestions on how to improve our instruction.  We will also make sure that our School Improvement Plan is updated and she is aware of what is happening in our school.

Have a great weekend!
March 29th-April 2nd
This week is a shortened week.  Everyone is looking forward to our Spring Break.  We will be off from school  April 2nd and April 5th.  I hope everyone enjoys the time off and the great weather we are supposed to have.

We will also be taking benchmark tests this week.  Grades 3, 4, and 5 will take their tests online (Interactive Achievement).  We will use this data to plan for the last remaining weeks before SOL tests.  I wish everyone good luck and expect our students' best efforts.

Have a great short week and a fabulous long weekend!
March 22nd-26th
What a beautiful weekend we just had! I was able to spend time in North Carolina with our daughter, son and daughter-in-law.  I hope you had just as wonderful weekend.

This week is filled with excitement for me.  I am meeting with students throughout the week and discussing their progression in academics.  It is always exciting to listen to the children and see them grow into successful adults.
I am also meeting with a select group of students for Lunch Bunch.  During their lunch period, the students come to computer lab and work on an academic program called Success Maker.  The students really enjoy it and I enjoy spending time with them.  We have such awesome students at OES!

Monday afternoon is a staff development for OES.  We will get together to develop a plan and prepare for the SOL tests in May.  Being in year 4 School Improvement has backed us in a corner, but I could not ask for better effort from my staff.  Everyone is dedicated and believes in the children.  We are confident this is our year to make AYP.

Monday at 5:00 is our Parent Advisory Meeting in the library.  Please stop by if you are interested.

The rest of the week is similar routine.  I will be in classrooms doing observations and meeting with teachers throughout the week.  We will also have our routine common planning meetings and our data meetings.

Friday and Saturday will hold the Fine Arts Fair at Orange County High School.  If you get a chance, you should go and check out all of the wonderful work at the high school.
March 15th-19th
Welcome to a new and exciting week!  This week is a busy one but we will accomplish a lot when it is done.

On Monday, I will be meeting with teachers throughout the day to discuss instructional plans for the remaining 40 or so days until SOL tests.  This process will continue throughout the week.  I also have a 1:00 state school improvement Webex that I will need to attend.  After student dismissal, we will have staff development to work on our backward maps for the 4th nine weeks.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the 5th grade writing SOL tests.  If you have a 5th grader, please remind them to take their time and give their best efforts during these tests.  I am confident they can do a great job!  Also, please assure that they get a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast during these testing days.  Later, I will attend a PTA informational meeting on Tuesday night.  This is being held at TEAC at 6:30.  I invite you to come if you have questions about PTA.

Thursday and Friday are make up testing days.  We will also have a tornado drill one of these days to make sure that students and staff know what to do if a tornado ever struck close by.
